The area is an especially popular destination for boaters and nautical enthusiasts. Take part in your favorite water sport on one of our smaller bodies of water like Bear Lake, Mona Lake, Duck Lake or White Lake. Or take advantage of our largest inland lake, Muskegon Lake, with direct access to Lake Michigan. It is a sailing paradise. If you are interested in learning to sail, Muskegon offers American Sailing Training Association approved courses. And for those that all ready have their sea-legs there are plenty of marine facilities with more than 3,000 boat slips offering a wide range of services.
Several rivers and creeks, especially the White and Muskegon rivers are popular with kayakers, canoeists, rafters and fishermen.
If you are interested in staying on land during your stay there are dozens of ways to fill your time in the Muskegon area. With three state parks, the Manistee National Forest, Muskegon State Game Area and dozens of county, city and township parks there is plenty of area to explore. One of our most popular attractions is our miles of clean, sugary, white sandy beaches. Muskegon area beaches have been designated as some of the best in the country by independent ranking agencies.
Other attractions include the new Monet Garden, in downtown Muskegon, which is a replica of Monet's famous gardens in Giverny, France.
History buffs will find lots of historic architecture, several historic ships and museums that could fill a week's visit on their own.
If you are looking for something a bit more active, Muskegon has a great selection of golf courses, miles and miles of reclaimed railway -- now used as bike and pedestrian trails, skateboard parks and more.
In the winter you will find a top notch winter sports complex with ice rinks, lighted cross-country ski trails, snowshoe trails and one of only five luge runs in the United States.
